Lionel Breaks Cycle of Poverty Via DCP Degree

University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning graduate Sylvester Lionel (BSBC ’10) grew up in a tough socioeconomic condition that consisted of poverty and struggle. As the son of a construction manager and homemaker, Lionel used his father as inspiration and soon realized he wanted a career in construction as well. With big career dreams such as this, he knew early in life he wanted to break the cycle of living in a rough socioeconomic situation.

Pugh Honored with UF Distinguished Alumni Award

M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management graduate Jim Pugh (BSCM ’63) was honored Dec. 18 at the University of Florida fall commencement ceremony inside the Stephen C. O’Connell Center as the recipient of the 2021 UF Distinguished Alumni Award. The honor, which is one of UF’s most prestigious awards through the President’s Office, is presented to an alumnus of the university who has excelled in their chosen field and has performed outstanding service for the university.

Air Force Academy To Honor Rinker Legend

What defines a legacy? For Col. Arthur G. Witters (BSBC ’41), his legacy lasts generations. A member of the first graduating class of the University of Florida M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management (known at the time as the Building Construction program), and a United States Air Force veteran, Witters was literally one of the first to leave a Rinker Legacy. Producing a Gator graduate family tree that includes three of his children and three more grandchildren, his legacy in Gainesville continues to this day.

Rinker School Hosts Inaugural Residential Building Summit

A dozen residential building companies made up of mostly University of Florida graduates convened inside the Stephen C. O’Connell Center Tuesday afternoon for the inaugural Residential Building Summit. The event, held on the eve of the annual M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management Career Fair, was designed to encourage students to pursue a career in the residential construction industry.

Madubuike Pulling Double Duty with Two Summer Internships

Scheduled to graduate next summer with a degree in construction management, Obinna Madubuike is one of the hardest-working students in the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management. After completing his first internship of the summer this past month for the facilities department at UF Health Shands, the Ph.D. candidate is currently spending the next two months as a student intern in project management at Stellar in Jacksonville.
