University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning Dean Chimay Anumba formally announced the DCP Gallery has been renamed the John and Anne Sofarelli Family Gallery. A public ribbon-cutting ceremony took place April 15, 2022, at the School of Architecture Building featuring the Sofarelli family, faculty, students, staff and friends of the program.

Firefighter Advances His Career in Fire & Emergency Services via FES Program and DCP

While working in fire and emergency services for several years, 38-year-old Brian Canaday decided to pursue a four-year degree to further his education and advance his career. Growing up with love and admiration for the Florida Gators, he fulfilled his dream of becoming one himself via UF Online—the #1 online program for his degree. Set to graduate this May, Brian recently accepted the position of Assistant Fire Chief at the City of Bradenton, Florida.

Onicx Named Top Gator-Owned Business; Antevy Brothers Honored at 2022 Gator100 Event

Led by No. 1 ranked Onicx, the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning placed 14 alumni-owned companies on the 2022 Gator100, the UF Alumni Association announced Friday, April 22, in a ceremony inside the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The annual list recognizes the 100 fastest-growing Gator-owned or Gator-led businesses in the world. Since 2018, DCP grads with successful businesses have made up more than 20 percent of the Gator100.

Blinn, Desai and Plunkett Named University of Florida Outstanding Young Alumni

University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning alumni Nathan Blinn (MSCM ’15, Ph.D. ‘18), Ekta Desai (BDES ’08) and Nicole Plunkett (BLAE ‘10) were three of a select group of UF graduates selected to this year’s prominent “40 Gators Under 40.” The three recipients tie for the most DCP has ever had.

Safety Yard Officially Opens at UF TREEO Center

Designed to benefit students at the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management and reduce the 150,000 annual injuries on construction job sites, the brand-new Safety Yard at the University of Florida TREEO Center officially opened this past Friday, April 1. Collaborating with the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning were the Kiewit Corporation, Santa Fe College, Charles Perry Partners, Inc. and the UF Office of Professional and Workforce Development.

Rinker Associate Professor Emeritus Jack Martin Passes Away

The University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning mourns the loss of one of its former faculty members: Jack Martin, retired Associate Professor Emeritus of the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management and a distinguished veteran and retired Colonel of the U.S. Army. Martin passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022. He was 93.
