Hours before the nationally-ranked University of Florida football team soundly defeated Vanderbilt University by a score of 42-0 Saturday afternoon in The Swamp, the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning welcomed back hundreds of alumni for its annual alumni tailgate. The event was sponsored by DeAngelis Diamond and Hawkins Construction, Inc.
“Being a DCP graduate is a significant thing for Hawkins,” said Suzanna Masters Meadows, a 1980 graduate of the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management, and current senior estimator at Hawkins Construction. “It is nice to sponsor this event and meet the future of our industry.”
Attendees congregated at the Architecture Building Atrium and Lawn for an amazing spread catered by Sonny’s BBQ and Pitmaster Shannon Snell, a 2003 first-team All-American for the Gator football team. Whether it was a delicious breakfast plate of bacon, eggs and grits, or a lunch spread featuring brisket, pulled chicken and pulled pork, alumni and their families had fun playing lawn games and listening to music. In addition, the tailgate featured a beer garden courtesy of Gainesville’s own Cypress and Grove Brewing Company.
“It was a delight to safely welcome back so many of our outstanding alumni and celebrate the professional success they have all had since graduating from the college,” DCP Dean Chimay Anumba said. “We certainly missed seeing them last year and we cannot wait to welcome them back to campus again soon.”
Graduates who were recently named to the “40 Gators Under 40″ list were also honored.
