The University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning welcomed new faculty members beginning with the Fall 2022 semester.

Like millions of human beings across the globe, being in quarantine during the global pandemic caused a massive epiphany in 2020 for University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning student Sydney Cherrington. An electrical engineering major at the time, the Georgia native realized her calling was to one day be an architect. Since that moment, there has been no stopping her.

Taurean Merriweather is a University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning graduate who earned a master’s degree in historic preservation in 2018 and works as a designer at the architecture firm Cooper Carry in Atlanta.

Eric Kleinsteuber is a University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning graduate who earned a bachelor’s in design in 2002 before receiving a master’s degree in architecture in 2004. Kleinsteuber is currently principal at KMF Architects and serves as the design director and architect of record.

On Friday, May 20, College of Design, Construction and Planning Associate Professor Bradley Walters, Research Assistant Professor Sujin Kim and graduate student Craig Steckelberg spent time in Okahumpka restoring the Okahumpka Rosenwald School so it can continue to function as a historical site.

University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning alumni Nathan Blinn (MSCM ’15, Ph.D. ‘18), Ekta Desai (BDES ’08) and Nicole Plunkett (BLAE ‘10) were three of a select group of UF graduates selected to this year’s prominent “40 Gators Under 40.” The three recipients tie for the most DCP has ever had.

More than 60 design and planning firms made up of architects, interior designers, landscape architects and other disciplines flooded the floor of the Stephen C. O’Connell Center this past week for the annual University of Florida Design and Planning Career Fair. A total of $10,000 was awarded to University of Florida students this past Tuesday at the Spring 2022 Witters Competition hosted by the College of Design, Construction and Planning. Created in 1993 and endowed by Arthur G. and Beverley A. Witters, the annual contest was created to offer students from each DCP discipline as well as the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering an experience to work with different disciplines before they graduated.

“Bruno, I need you to take me to the moon.” These words were spoken to Bruno-Elias Ramos (BDES ’82, MARCH ’85) in a gentle, but firm manner, by a group of investors trying to embark on a monumental awe-inspiring project in Istanbul, Turkey.
