PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The SoA Admissions Committee reviews all program applications and makes the final determination of acceptance and program status. When accepted into the Master of Architecture degree programs, students are assigned to one of the three curricular tracks and may be offered scholarships or teaching assistantship opportunities based on their standing and qualifications. Applicants will be notified of the terms of their acceptance by letter via email.
Of the three curricular tracks available, two (Track I and Track II) require certain accreditation criteria to be met in preparatory education experience. Admitted students who did not complete the B.Des program at UF will be asked to provide additional documentation for review by the Admissions Officer and Associate Director of Graduate Programs. The accreditation criteria to be evaluated are explained in detail below and make reference to the conditions for accreditation.
Track I: “Advanced” Degree Program: – Criteria met in Preparatory Education Experience:
● PC.4: History & Theory: At UF, this Program Criteria is met through ARC1701 Architectural History 1. Applicants who did not complete this course at UF are required to provide syllabi and other course materials to demonstrate that they have met relevant accreditation criteria.
● SC.4: Technical Knowledge: At UF, this Student Criteria is met through two courses: ARC3493C Integrated Building Tech 3 and ARC6355 Advanced Graduate Design Studio 2. Applicants who did not complete ARC3493C at UF are required to provide syllabi and other course materials to demonstrate that they have met relevant accreditation criteria.
The materials provided are reviewed relative to accreditation criteria, and applicants are notified if they have met all requirements. If there is not enough evidence that applicants have met particular criteria through their preparatory education experiences, applicants will be requested to provide additional materials. If documentation is not available, applicants will be required to complete additional coursework as a part of their degree program, to ensure that all accreditation criteria are met.
Track II: “Second Professional” Degree Program: – Criteria met in Preparatory Education Experience:
As a second professional degree program, it is assumed that all applicants have already met all accreditation requirements. The following criteria, in particular, must be met through preparatory educational experiences:

During the application process, transcripts for applicants to Track II are reviewed to verify that prior degree work was completed at NAAB-accredited programs.
The Master of Architecture Degree comprises three tracks:
Track One (Advanced Program) is a 52-credit degree for students who’ve completed a pre-professional degree like our Bachelor of Design. It is typically completed in two academic years.
Track Two (Second Professional Degree) is a 30-credit degree for students who’ve completed an accredited professional degree. It is typically completed in one academic year.
Track Three (Core Program) is a 100-credit degree for students whose undergraduate degree is in a field other than architecture. It is typically completed in four academic years.
