Silver to Use Fulbright Grant for Work in Indonesia

Dr. Christopher Silver, FAICP, professor in the University of Florida Department of Urban and Regional Planning, has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Scholar grant to the University of Indonesia’s Department of Architecture within their Faculty of Engineering. The grant runs from January through May 2019.

“My involvement with the University of Indonesia goes back to my first Fulbright there in 1989-90,” Silver explained. “This has shaped my teaching, research and consulting work since then, especially with regard to urban development in developing nations.”

He will be working with colleagues in the faculty to develop a graduate level Sustainability and the Built Environment program (similar to the UF program in the College of Design, Construction and Planning offered at the undergraduate level).

Silver is also a principal investigator representing the UF subcontract on the USAID SHERA Project, “SMART CITY,” which he will assist with while on the Fulbright.

Moreover, UF has several other collaborative research/teaching initiatives with the University of Indonesia and other Indonesian universities that Silver will seek to strengthen during his residency there.

“We regularly recruit top students from Indonesia because of these connections, and in turn we provide our students with life changing international experiences,” Silver stated. “It is my expectation that the Fulbright grant will enable DCP to build upon these substantial foundations throughout the college.”
