Scheduled to graduate in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design, Michaela Miller has spent her summer in Gainesville as an operations intern at Foresight Construction Group. The DCP communications team recently interviewed Miller to ask her about her summer experience as it winds down.

Q&A

How did DCP prepare you for this internship?

DCP faculty recommended Foresight and encouraged me to apply. Overall, the DCP faculty have always been encouraging and helpful when it comes to internships and academic development.

What were your day-to-day responsibilities at your internship?

My day-to-day responsibilities included attending client meetings, visiting job sites, taking meeting minutes and helping assist with submittals in Procore. I also worked closely with the project managers and superintendents to produce the weekly insight reports.

What was the most challenging part of your internship?

Although I am studying interior design, I have a strong interest in construction management. With that being said, I think one of the most challenging parts was entering an internship that was not my focus of study in school. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding decisions since I was able to apply what I learned in my design studios and see how it is executed through construction thanks to the OneDCP collaborative nature.

How will this internship help you as a student at DCP?

The internship made me more well-rounded as a student and continued to grow my interest in the design and construction field.

What are your long-term career plans?

Long term, I would like to pursue a career in both design and construction.

What would you tell prospective students who are thinking about attending DCP?

I would say it is one of the best decisions you could make! All the students and faculty have been so welcoming and encouraging throughout the past three years.

What has been your favorite course/professor at DCP and why?

One of my favorite courses at UF has been construction documents with Genesis Okken as the professor. In the class, we learned different Revit tools to design and create construction documents. She also went in depth about codes and how things are constructed. It greatly impacted my studio projects and my understanding as a designer.

What has been your favorite memory at DCP and why?

My favorite memory at DCP has been being part of the DCP Ambassadors and Gator Interior Design for the past three years.
