Gator Grand Slam: three LAE students win state-level competition

For the fourth consecutive year, landscape architecture students from the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning have won top state awards in the Florida Association of Native Nurseries (FANN): “Real Landscapes Design Competition,” for the use of Florida native plants. Only this year, the students swept all three categories in the competition!

The annual award is not only open to students, but to practitioners as well. The Competition allows categories of entries for North, Central and South Florida regions.

This year’s winners include: Lea Kindt for the North Florida Category; Crystal Simmons for the Central Florida Category; and Collin Bowie for the South Florida Category.

“We are so thrilled with the UF contribution to this every year — these students are actually proposing huge advancements in sustainability for the landscape industry,” said Cammie Donaldson, executive director of FANN. “I’m convinced that these young gators will go forward and transform landscapes in Florida and across the nation and all of us will benefit. We all need to move over and make room for these wonderful young minds and creative talents. Glenn has done an incredible job with these young people. Everyone loves to see them at the show; they give us great hope for the future. They represent that ‘Gator Good’ we keep hearing about. Our judges for the competition have said more than once that the student submissions are the best and this year they really meant it.”
