The University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning welcomed its Class of 2029 Wednesday afternoon in the Antevy Hall Atrium, offering its newest students a chance to connect, learn about academic programs and preview upcoming events for the fall semester.

“Events like today are essential for building the sense of connection and community that defines our college,” Dean Chimay Anumba said. “It is particularly meaningful that this cohort represents the first incoming freshman class to engage in studio-based learning within the newly established Bruno E. and Maritza F. Ramos Collaboratory—an experience made even more significant by its alignment with the College’s Centennial Celebration.”

Anumba kicked off the event with a warm welcome, followed by Associate Dean Dan Manley introducing the leaders of each of the college’s diverse undergraduate disciplines: Construction Management, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Interior Design and Sustainability and the Built Environment. Each director shared a brief overview of their programs, highlighting new initiatives, academic goals, and opportunities for student involvement within their disciplines. One of the highlights was URP announcing a new undergraduate degree debuting in 2026 in addition to the minor they currently offer.

After that, the undergraduate academic advisors were introduced to the group, reinforcing the college’s commitment to student support and academic success.

“Establishing a connection with our students early on is crucial,” Academic Advisor Jillian Blazas said. “Today’s event provided a valuable opportunity for us to introduce ourselves not just as advisors, but as consistent sources of support throughout their academic journey.”

Following a Class of 2029 group picture, the college handed out various gifts for the students to enjoy, including popsicles on the scorching hot day. The event concluded with the DCP Ambassadors walking the group over to the Stephen C. O’Connell Center for the main University Convocation event.

“I chose DCP because it offers a lot of opportunities and is a great place to grow,” said incoming architecture major Jennifer Perez. “I am excited to meet other peers today and make new friends.”
