Sarasota, Fla. – Martin Gold, associate professor at the University of Florida School of Architecture, has been appointed as the program director of CityLab-Sarasota, a newly established satellite Master of Architecture program located in Sarasota.
The program, which is slated to begin this fall, will include seven advanced standing students studying for a professional master’s degree in architecture. The group will share the McCulloch Pavilion – originally designed by William Rupp and recently restored in an American Institute of Architects Honor Award winning project by UF alumnus and adjunct faculty member Guy Peterson – with the nonprofit Center for Architecture Sarasota.
Prior to the new position, Gold served as director of the School of Architecture from 2008-14 and was executive director of the Florida Community Design Center from 2005-12. During his 20-year tenure as a faculty member, Gold has published articles in the area of architectural technology and design, received numerous awards for urban and architectural design projects at the national and state levels and is a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards certified registered architect in Florida.
Gold will liaise with the Sarasota community, the design profession and local partner, the Center for Architecture Sarasota. This unique partnership will present opportunities to help educate students through service learning projects within the local community, and will attempt to engage UF faculty and students with the local professionals and community stakeholders in the study, visioning and advancement of Sarasota as a world-class architectural community.
