Quilian Riano, B.Des 2004, founder and principal of DSGN AGNC, has recently been named as one of the University of Florida Alumni Association’s Outstanding Young Alumni (OYA) recipients. This annual award was established to recognize alumni who have graduated within the past ten years whose achievements positively reflect the Gator Nation®.
Riano is an architectural and urban designer, researcher, writer and educator working out of Brooklyn, New York. In practice and academia, he works with stakeholders and trans-disciplinary teams to create comprehensive research that can be used to propose a variety of spatial designs, targeted policies and actions that seek to increase agency at various scales — from pamphlets to strategic master plans to architectures to landscapes.
He has won awards from the Vilcek Foundation, the American Society of Landscape Architects, Harvard University and Boston Society of Architects. Riano’s work has been featured at the Venice Biennale, Queens Museum of Art, Harvard University, Parsons The New School of Design, The Storefront of Art and Architecture, The New Museum and The Austrian Cultural Forum, among others.
Riano and DSGN AGNC’s work has been written about on the New York Times, Metropolis Magazine, Architect Magazine, The Architect’s Newspaper, Harvard Design Magazine and Archinect. Quilian remains active with public groups in support of immigrant and other under-served communities.
