Students and faculty in the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning recently toured the Harvey Sharron Bat Cave Field Laboratory, with Jason Meneely, Associate Professor from the Department of Interior Design, serving as a guide from his expertise in cave exploration. Caves are a unique and sensitive geologic feature that can be accessed in parts of Florida and Alachua County, and provide a window into the karst geology and hydrology of the state. Visitors to the bat cave can see an underground lake, which represents the top of the water table and part of the Floridan aquifer. The caves are managed by Santa Fe College’s Natural Sciences Department.
