Pat Boatman

Pat Boatman graduated from the University of Florida in 2021 with a B.S. Environmental Science, with additional coursework in sustainability studies and Spanish language disciplines. Upon his return to the university, Pat is looking forward to research within the MISD program, hoping to bridge the gap between sustainable agriculture and urban communities; other interests lie within sustainable design in luxury real estate and landscape architecture consulting.

Experience
Pat is currently pursuing the MISD while working full-time as a transportation planning consultant, completing most of his work with the Florida Department of Transportation Office of Safety. This role has given Pat the opportunity to develop his skills in inventory management, event management, social media management, urban planning, project management, and multimedia marketing and communications. Before working as a consultant, Pat spent time creating marketing material for a local Tampa solar company, worked in project management at a solar company, and happily served as a barista for multiple years. Pat is also currently a member of the American Planning Association and looks forward to contributing a presentation within the upcoming year.

Oluwasegun Joel James

Oluwasegun Joel James

Oluwasegun Joel James is a results-oriented, resourceful, and determined individual with experience in Urban Planning, currently pursuing both an MSc. in Urban and Regional Planning and an MSc. in Integrated Sustainable Development at the University of Florida. His academic journey is shaped by a passion for environmental design, sustainable development, and the intersection of sustainable construction and energy efficiency within the built environment.

His research interests are diverse, spanning Environmental planning, Housing, Social Justice, GIS and Mapping. Oluwasegun is also deeply interested in the study of sustainable construction practices and building energy modeling, examining ways to improve energy efficiency in urban spaces.

His current work as a research assistance with the Shimberg center for Housing Studies includes creating flood hazard exposure and vulnerability mapping in Florida which further aligns with his commitment to sustainability and risk management in urban planning. As a GIS Analyst and Environmentalist, Oluwasegun leverages his technical skills and knowledge in GIS mapping, urban planning, and environmental management to tackle complex challenges and contribute to the development of sustainable, resilient communities.

Oluwasegun is eager to apply my expertise in both urban planning and integrated sustainable development to drive positive change, with a focus on creating environmentally conscious, energy-efficient, and livable spaces.

Chloe Miko

Chloe Miko is passionate about creating more resilient and sustainable communities through thoughtful design, planning, and collaboration across disciplines.

Sustainable urban planning, coastal resilience, green infrastructure as strategies for adapting to climate challenges in Florida and beyond, sustainable construction, renewable energy, LEED, and nature-based solutions that balance ecological health with human development

Experience
Chloe completed an AmeriCorps service year with GatorCorps, where she worked with UF FIBER in Gainesville and UF Nature Coast Biological Station in Cedar Key on coastal community resilience initiatives. Her work included community outreach, sustainability education, and volunteer engagement for local food systems and environmental projects.

Additionally, Chloe interned with the University of Florida Planning, Design, and Construction office, assisting with project coordination and sustainable design practices in campus development. Her academic and professional experiences have equipped her with a strong foundation in sustainability focused project management and the integration of design and environmental goals.
