Job Overview

A Construction Project Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects by managing material procurement, coordination, document management, and quality control. This role ensures accurate record-keeping, timely material deliveries, and seamless communication between stakeholders to keep the project on schedule and within budget.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery: Track material/equipment orders and deliveries, ensuring alignment with project schedules.
    • Understand scopes of work included in subcontracts and/or commitments.
    • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to address material delays or shortages.
    • Identify potential delays due to material shortages and recommend solutions.
    • Maintain an updated log of long-lead items and critical-path materials.
    • Verify that materials received match approved submittals and contract requirements.
    • Understand and assist with project schedule management.
  • Document Control & Project Administration: Manage the distribution and organization of construction documents (plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, etc.).
    • Ensure the latest drawings and specifications are available to field teams.
    • Process, track, and maintain logs for RFIs and submittals, ensuring timely responses.
    • Attend regular project meetings, record and distribute meeting minutes.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean job site, enforcing OSHA safety standards, and ensuring compliance with local/state regulations and building codes.
  • Daily Planning & Execution: Plan daily tasks, prioritize workload, and track project milestones.
  • Subcontractor Management: Communicate plans to subcontractors and suppliers, inspect their work for quality, and ensure compliance with project specifications and code requirements.
  • Inspections & Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections, enforce quality control standards, and plan corrective actions when needed.
    • Support quality control by verifying field installations align with approved documents.
    • Attend pre-installation meetings with Subcontractors and Field Management to review contract documents, details, approved submittals, and manufacturer requirements.
    • Conduct regular inspections and enforce quality control standards.
    • Assist in preparing inspections, compliance audits and the non-conformance log.
  • Closeout: Obtain closeout information, gather punch list items, prepare as-built drawings & assist with warranty process.
  • Customer Service & Communication: Maintain good relationships with inspectors, architects, subcontractors, owners/clients, and other key people personnel associated with the project.

Qualifications

  • A strong work ethic and “can-do” attitude.
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field is preferred. Previous internship with a construction-related firm or at least two years of experience in construction project management is preferred.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project) to manage projects and coordinate team efforts.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of OSHA regulations & the ability to identify safety hazards and assist to correct immediately.
