2023 Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Development in Global South Conference

Global Experts to Converge at New Delhi Conference for Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Development in August 2023

The Institute for Human Development (IHD) in New Delhi and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Florida, have announced the Second Edition of the International Conference on “Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Development in Global South: International Experiences and Future Strategies.” The conference will take place in New Delhi, India from August 10th-12th, 2023.

Building on the success of the first edition held in 2015, the conference seeks to bring together scholars, experts, urban planners, and practitioners from around the world to discuss the latest global urban developments, evidence, and perspectives.

Participants will have the opportunity to share regional urban experiences and case studies to help shape an inclusive urbanization agenda, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

The conference will cover a wide range of themes, including international experiences of urbanization, urban governance and planning, employment and green jobs, urban spaces and gender equality, social and economic inclusion, affordable housing, rural-urban linkages, migration, climate change, public safety, technology and innovation, and multi-species cohabitation in cities.

Scholars and experts from both Global South and North are invited to submit extended abstracts (500-700 words) by May 15th, 2023 through the conference portal. Accepted abstracts will be notified by May 25th, 2023, and full papers are due by July 25th, 2023. Panel proposals from scholars and institutions are also welcome and should be sent by May 31st, 2023 to seminar@ihdindia.org.
