The City of Gainesville, Florida is a Certified Local Government (CLG) with Following the Second World War, the City of Gainesville, Florida physically expanded as the population grew by nearly 50,000 between 1940 and 1970. This dramatic growth was accompanied by a transformation of the city’s architecture, as mid-century modern design began to appear in suburban homes, commercial properties, and motels, among other vernacular building types.

Phase I of the Cultural Resource Survey accomplished the following tasks:

•Review Existing Documentation and Undertake Further Research
•Complete Survey
•Prepare Florida Master Site File Forms
•Develop Postwar Context Statement
•Revise and Update Historic Preservation Guidelines
