Alayna Jackson, summer 2021 MHP graduate, has recently accepted a position as Planner for the City of Newberry. Alayna’s thesis is titled “Mapping Florida’s Civil Rights Sites: A Phase I Survey of Florida Civil Rights Heritage Sites” with an accompanying ArcGIS StoryMap linked below. As with many preservation related roles, Alayna’s responsibilities vary from day-to-day, with her current primary responsibility of preparing materials that go to the City Commission and Planning and Zoning Board. In her first presentation to the Commission, all of her agenda items passed! In her new position, Alayna has learned about the processes behind annexations, concurrency, zoning, new development, and continues to learn new things every day. Alayna shared with us how exciting it is to be involved in shaping the city’s future and “in the know” of what is up and coming. Congratulations, Alayna!
