BIO

Laurel is a practicing planner with nearly two-decades of university teaching experience. Her approach is grounded in design and built upon professional practice in land use planning, urban design,  community engagement, and emergency management. Laurel is passionate about the intersection of planning policy and implementation. Her experience on both the private and public sides of projects has allowed her to view the development process from different angles, contributing to her effectiveness as a practicing planner and educator. She is experienced working on inter-disciplinary teams involving urban designers, architects, planners, and engineers, with strong representation from community stakeholders in the planning process. In addition to her professional interests, Laurel enjoys working with members of the community, volunteering in local schools, citizen committees, and non-profit arts organizations.
