Dr. Yan Wang’s research engages resilience of complex system and urban analytics. Her expertise involves data analytics (especially social media data), complex network analysis, planning information system, Public-Private Partnership, etc. Taking advantages of emerging urban-scale spatial and semantic data, her exploratory studies intend to understand perturbed human mobility patterns and sentiment pre, during, and post disasters. She also investigates the complexity of coupled human-built environment system and measures resilience across temporal and spatial scales. In addition to these exploratory and empirical studies, her research relates to crisis informatics, including developing an automatic emergencies/crises detection and tracking system for social networking platforms (e.g., Twitter), enabling interactive, real-time geo-visualization of the events, and estimating disasters’ impact rapidly. These current projects contribute to disaster and emergency management as well as smart and resilient cities planning.
