The Urban Sciences and Planning program prepares students to address complex urban challenges by integrating theoretical foundations with practical applications. Building on a strong base in urban planning and interdisciplinary courses, students explore how tools from economics, policy analysis, governance, ethics, data science, and geospatial analysis can be used to craft innovative solutions to built environment and environmental issues in the U.S. and globally.

UF Undergraduate Application Information for
Urban Sciences and Planning

The UF Office of Admissions reviews freshman admission applications. Admitted freshman applicants can declare Urban Sciences and Planning as a major.

Application Deadline: November 1st

The College of Design, Construction & Planning reviews transfer applications. Students who have earned an AA degree or at least 60 credit hours may apply for transfer admissions. Transfer applicants are considered on a space available basis. 

Competitive applicants should complete the below prerequisite courses prior to transferring to UF: 

  • Introduction to Statistics 1 STA 2023
  • Principles of Macroeconomics ECO 2013
  • Principles of Microeconomics ECO 2023
  • American Federal Government POS 2041 or American State and Local Government POS 2112

Frequently Asked Questions

UF Freshman applicants are considered by UF Office of Admissions via Common App. They are not reviewed by the College of Design, Construction and Planning. Students should still list Urban Sciences and Planning as their intended major on their Common App, but they will be reviewed by the Office of Admissions against all other UF applicants for all majors.

Students looking to transfer to UF for Urban Sciences and Planning have either 60 college credits or an AA degree. Competitive transfer applicants should have completed the four prerequisite courses of Introduction to Statistics STA2023, Macroeconomics ECO2013, Microeconomics ECO2023, and either American Federal Government POS2041 or American State and Local Government POS2112. Applicants are not expected to have prior planning experience.

The transfer application deadline for UF’s Urban Sciences and Planning major is May 1st for the fall semester. There are no spring semester admissions for Urban Sciences and Planning. Students must submit their transfer application by the deadline to be considered.

After applying to the freshman admissions process at UF, you may be invited into the Gator Design and Construction (GDC) @ Santa Fe program. This program allows design students to start taking classes at Santa Fe College and obtain UF status after their second semester. Learn more about this program and its benefits here.
