Faculty From the University of Florida’s Center for Landscape Conservation Planning Publish New Research on Sea Level Rise Adaptation for Florida’s Coastal Ecosystems
Faculty from the University of Florida’s Center for Landscape Conservation Planning (CLCP) have published new research examining how sea level rise is threatening Florida’s coastal ecosystems and what can be done to help them adapt.
The paper, “Sea level rise escape planning for Florida’s coastal ecosystems”, was featured in the journal Discover Conservation, and explores the risks posed by rising seas and potential strategies to support long-term ecosystem resilience. A key focus for the research team was the identification of inland migration pathways that would allow coastal ecosystems to shift and adapt over time, rather than be lost entirely.
CLCP faculty are recognized leaders in research addressing sea level rise and other pressures facing Florida’s fragile landscapes. The paper was led by Dr. Eve Bohnett, Ecological Connectivity and Ecosystem Services Modeling Coordinator for CLCP and Assistant Scholar in the UF Department of Landscape Architecture. Additional authors include CLCP Director Tom Hoctor and CLCP staff members Michael O’Brien, Reed Noss, and Asena Goren.
