We Go Beyond the Classroom

We Go Beyond the Classroom

Interior Design is more than theory—it’s a profession grounded in real-world application. That’s why we believe some of the most powerful learning happens outside the classroom.

Our students regularly step into the field to see how design comes to life:

Firm Visits & Industry Tours: Learn how design is practiced in professional settings, how materials and furnishings are sourced, and how projects are built—from concept to completion.
Community Impact: Through our partnership with Rebuilding Together, students gain hands-on construction experience while helping repair homes for vulnerable populations. It’s a powerful way to learn about building methods, teamwork, and community collaboration.
Atlanta Industry Tour: Each year, juniors spend four days in Atlanta, visiting design firms, furniture showrooms, and merchandise centers—getting a firsthand look at the industry in action.
Senior Design Trips: Seniors travel to cities like Chicago, Nashville, New Orleans, and Dallas to visit firms, explore completed projects, and attend professional conferences.
Field Trips Throughout the Year: As part of their coursework, students visit construction sites, design firms, vendors, and completed projects to deepen their understanding of the profession.
Study Abroad in Germany: Every summer, students can study at Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe (TH-OWL) in Detmold, Germany. Over seven weeks, they take advanced lighting and color courses, participate in Design Project Week, explore the German lighting industry, and travel to cities like Berlin and Venice.

These experiences prepare our students to become thoughtful, informed, and globally aware designers—ready to make an impact from day one.
