{"id":684,"date":"2016-10-18T21:01:22","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T01:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dcp.ufl.edu\/urp\/?page_id=684"},"modified":"2025-10-09T16:23:28","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T20:23:28","slug":"combined-degree-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dcp.ufl.edu\/urp\/academics\/campus_programs\/combined-degree-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Combination Degree Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">The Department of Urban and Regional Planning offers a combination degree program that allows academically qualified students to earn both a bachelor\u2019s degree and Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree within a five-year period, rather than the usual six years.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">Interested students should meet with an academic adviser as early in the sophomore year of their undergraduate career as possible to determine their eligibility. Students should complete the combination degree application before the completion of the first semester of their junior year and before they have enrolled in the graduate courses that can be counted towards both degrees. A total of 21 credit hours of graduate coursework completed with grades of B or higher can count towards both degrees.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">The minimum qualification for initial acceptance into the Combination Degree Program is a 3.2 GPA. Acceptance into the 4+1 Combination Degree program does not guarantee acceptance into the URP graduate program. You will need to complete the Graduate School application during your senior year.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">How to Apply<br>Step One:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">Meet with the Undergraduate Advisor during your sophomore year or two years prior to completing your bachelor\u2019s degree to determine whether you are eligible.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">If eligible, schedule a meeting with the URP Graduate Coordinator. Fill out a combination degree application form*\u00a0in consultation with both your Undergraduate Advisor and the URP Graduate Coordinator. Respond to the essay prompts required with the application to the combination degree program.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">If admitted to the combination degree program, student will register for up to 21 credits of graduate level courses in their junior and senior years that will be counted towards both degrees.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">Step Two:<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">Meet with URP\u2019s Graduate Coordinator as needed regarding any questions about the admissions process into the URP graduate program.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">During the first semester of your senior year, initiate the Graduate School application\u00a0process. For more information, visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/dcp.ufl.edu\/urp\/admissions\/application-procedures\/\">Admissions<\/a> page.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">Transfer of Credits<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">During the first semester following award of the bachelor\u2019s degree, Combination Degree coursework (up to 21 credits from courses with a grade of \u201cB\u201d or better) will be transferred to count towards graduate degree.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\" class=\"stk-highlight\">*ANY changes to the student\u2019s combination degree agreement plan (which includes the term and final grades of the shared courses), MUST be promptly reported to both academic program assistants\/advisors, who will notify the graduate school of the changes.
