The University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning welcomed its Class of 2030 Wednesday afternoon in the Dhvanit and Saloni Patel Atrium at Jonathan and Melanie Antevy Hall, giving its newest students an opportunity to connect with faculty and staff, learn more about their academic programs and get a preview of upcoming events for the fall semester.
“Events like this are an important part of helping our students feel connected from the very beginning,” said Dan Manley, DCP’s associate dean for undergraduate education and facilities. “We want our students to know that they are joining a community that is invested in their success. We are excited to see them grow and ready to support them throughout their time at DCP.”
Dean Chimay Anumba opened the event with a warm welcome before Manley introduced the leaders of each of the college’s six undergraduate disciplines: Construction Management, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Interior Design and Sustainability and the Built Environment. Each director provided a brief overview of their program, highlighting new initiatives, academic goals and opportunities for students to get involved within their disciplines.
The college’s undergraduate academic advisors were then introduced, reinforcing DCP’s commitment to providing students with the guidance and support they need to succeed academically and make the most of their college experience.
“Starting college is an exciting time, but it can also come with a lot of questions,” said Rachel Sherman, an academic advisor at DCP. “Our goal is to make sure students know they have people here who are ready to help them navigate those questions, whether they are choosing courses, exploring opportunities or simply figuring out what comes next. We are excited to get to know this class and support them throughout their journey at DCP.”
Following a group photo of the Class of 2030, students received a variety of DCP gifts, including bags, stress balls shaped like construction hard hats and popsicles. The event concluded with DCP Ambassadors walking the group to the Stephen C. O’Connell Center for the University’s main Convocation event.
