Facing rising sea levels, rapid urban growth, and intensifying hurricanes, Miami is one of the most vulnerable cities on Earth in the face of climate change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cGrowing up in Miami, I\u2019m always reminded of the threats facing the city from natural disasters and climate change, and that\u2019s what drew me towards a career focusing on sustainability,\u201d said Morgan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-34b26da1b19a1eb1fba03e677d6f0886\">Beginning at UF as a Sustainability and the Built Environment major, she quickly realized she wanted to pursue a more hands-on approach to environmental resilience. This brought her to the landscape architecture program, where she currently focuses on coastal resilience research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-048b2016de6f60d46a90dd3482d53adc\">\u201cI\u2019m doing research now under Dr. Jules Bruck, working on coastal resilience and creating landscapes that will mitigate the effects of these environmental changes,\u201d said Morgan. \u201cSpecifically, I\u2019m focused on nature-based solutions and the specific threats to Florida\u2019s coastline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-6d77efece9c40703067ef7a095330e56\">Morgan\u2019s ultimate goal is to open her own landscape architecture firm in Miami, focused on climate change and resilience. Until then, she\u2019s staying busy outside of classes and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-31b3c7f55823b4d15a99e902d044c479\">Focusing much of her free time on climate advocacy, Morgan served as an intern with the <a href=\"https:\/\/cleoinstitute.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLEO Institute<\/a>, a non-profit organization focused on climate education, advocacy, and engagement. Her role focused on running a grassroots campaign to establish UF\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gencleoaction.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">genCLEO<\/a> chapter, part of a larger state-wide effort to mobilize young Floridians to take action to protect the state\u2019s fragile ecosystems. Additionally, she served a Student Representative for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunrisemovement.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sunrise Movement<\/a>, a national organization advocating to stop the climate crisis and effectuate large-scale societal change to combat its effects. She also pursues her interest in sustainable fashion and waste reduction by creating and curating fashion pieces for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strikemagazines.com\/branches\/gainesville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strike Magazine<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cI thrift all of my clothes,\u201d said Morgan. \u201cSustainable fashion and waste reduction are incredibly important issues, so I work with Strike on clothing designs and curations for the magazine. I do events as well and create outfits from used clothes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-a051a4e390212e84e5864377965262ca\">Finally, Morgan serves as a <a href=\"https:\/\/flaamerica.org\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/flaamerica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Future Landscape Architects of America (FLAA)<\/a> Representative for the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
