{"id":10057,"date":"2025-01-31T17:08:20","date_gmt":"2025-01-31T22:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dcp.ufl.edu\/landscape\/?p=10057"},"modified":"2025-01-31T17:08:27","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T22:08:27","slug":"landscape-architecture-students-take-top-honors-at-international-design-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dcp.ufl.edu\/landscape\/landscape-architecture-students-take-top-honors-at-international-design-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Landscape Architecture Students Take Top Honors at International Design Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-e1071fd0 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dcp.ufl.edu\/landscape\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/36\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-2025-01-31-at-4.23.47\u202fPM-1024x304.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"uag-image-10059\" width=\"1246\" height=\"370\" title=\"Screenshot 2025-01-31 at 4.23.47\u202fPM\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"img\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Landscape Architecture students from left to right: Hayden Bertone, Audrey Foster and Will Marshall, Class of 2025<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning Landscape Architecture Implementation Studio students received international recognition for their designs at a prestigious competition in Portugal this semester.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s theme, \u201cGarden of Peace: Garden for Peace\u201d attracted 51 entries from 15 countries including the US, Portugal, Austria, Slovakia, Holland, Brazil, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Colombia, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Ukraine and Bulgaria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will Marshall\u2019s \u201cPaths of Peace\u201d was selected as one of two alternate finalists.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Audrey Foster\u2019s \u201cRe-Imagining Peace\u201d and Hayden Bertone\u2019s \u201cAwaken\u201d entries both won first place honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Audrey and Hayden\u2019s winning designs will be built over the next six months and will showcase as two of the 12 gardens featured at the 20th annual Festival Internacional de Jardins, Pont de Lima, starting in May 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This marks the first time students in the Implementation Studio submitted&nbsp; designs for an international competition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Studio instructor Kevin Thompson reflected on the unique challenges the students faced during the process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a challenging semester as we were not only confronted with time differences, cultural boundaries, language barriers, foreign exchange rates and the challenges of specifying and detailing materials in the metric system of measurement,\u201d said Thompson. \u201cBut throwing in two hurricanes on top of it all really stacked the odds against us.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Challenges aside, the students did an amazing job.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the end, the studio produced 20 individual competition entries, each with full construction documentation sets, and three taking top prizes,\u201d said Thompson. \u201cI am very proud of each and every student for rising to meet this challenge\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jules Bruck, Chair of the Landscape Architecture program, emphasized the significance of this accomplishment for the program.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis notable achievement demonstrates the exceptional talent and dedication of our students and faculty, as well as the strength of our program in preparing future leaders in landscape architecture.\u00a0 Competing on an international stage reinforces our commitment to fostering innovative, globally-minded designers who can navigate complex challenges and contribute meaningfully to the profession.\u00a0 We are incredibly proud of our students\u2019 success and the impact their work will have.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Landscape Architecture students from left to right: Hayden Bertone, Audrey Foster and Will Marshall, Class of 2025\u00a0 Three University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning Landscape Architecture Implementation Studio students received international recognition for their designs at a prestigious competition in Portugal this semester.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
