Degree Requirements<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

The Ph.D. program in Design, Construction and Planning with a concentration in Interior Design prepares students for careers in academia, consulting, practice-based research, or roles in the public sector. You can explore our Current Graduate Students<\/a><\/strong> page to see examples of where our graduates are making an impact. The degree is typically completed in four years. While we can accept admissions for both the Fall and Spring semesters, most of our Ph.D. students begin in the Fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 90 credit hours are required to complete the program. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/path><\/svg><\/span>10 credit<\/strong> hours of DCP doctoral core courses,<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n
<\/path><\/svg><\/span>9 credit<\/strong> hours of Interior Design core courses, and<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n
<\/path><\/svg><\/span>15 credit<\/strong> hours of dissertation research.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In addition, students must take at least one other graduate-level course (minimum 3 credit hours) within DCP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expected Outcomes<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

By the end of the program, students will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n
<\/path><\/svg><\/span>Propose and conduct original research<\/strong> that advances knowledge in the design and management of the built environment, grounded in critical analysis<\/strong> and synthesis of existing studies.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n
<\/path><\/svg><\/span>Demonstrate a strong understanding of research methods<\/strong>, theories,<\/strong> and philosophies<\/strong> relevant to the built environment, and define major and minor areas of concentration aligned with their their dissertation focus.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n
<\/path><\/svg><\/span>Develop and complete an original dissertation<\/strong>, and effectively disseminate research findings through teaching, scholarly publications, and selective collaborations with professionals in industry and government.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
