Financial Aid

Attending the University of Florida makes a high-quality college education quite affordable.

Financial aid is available on the basis of documented need. UF Student Financial Affairs determines financial aid eligibility and handles all requests for loans, grants, scholarships, fellowships and student employment. See a copy of its Gator Aid brochure for details on requirements, processes and procedures.

The UF School of Architecture also has limited financial aid resources in the form of scholarships, assistantships and small short-term loans. Its graduate admissions committee awards scholarships (ranging from $500 to $5,000) to select incoming graduate students deemed the most qualified on the strength of their application materials. Continued scholarship funding is determined on the basis of superior performance, academic merit and student leadership. Graduate teaching or research assistantships-which include a tuition waiver and a stipend-are awarded, as a norm, only after qualified students have successfully completed their first year in their respective programs. Tuition waivers are not available outside of graduate assistantships. All other financial aid is coordinated outside the school, by UF Student Financial Affairs.

International Student Finances

In order to qualify for a student visa and enter the United States, international students must provide proof of existing financial support to cover all educational and living expenses by submitting a filled-out, signed and notarized Certification of Financial Responsibility form with their applications. Graduate students from abroad must present proof of having $47,135 at their disposal for their first year of study here, plus $6,000 per year for an accompanying spouse and $2,500 per year for each accompanying child.

In light of these requirements, it is absolutely essential that prospective students from outside the United States begin financial planning early and undertake it seriously and thoroughly, as financial aid from UF may not be available. Please make concerted and exhaustive efforts to secure funding from any and all government, educational, professional and financial agencies in your homeland that can invest in your education.

Further information about admissions, financial, insurance and immigration polices affecting international students is available from the UF International Center website. Please read this very important information before you begin the application process.
