UF Launches Online Master’s Program in Urban and Regional Planning
February 07, 2012
Consistently acknowledged as one of the nation’s leading universities by sources such as U.S. News World & Report, the University of Florida now unveils its next triumph in education, the online Master of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning. With two specializations to choose from, Sustainability or Geographic Information Systems, and an internationally renowned faculty, one of strongest graduate degree programs in planning is now also one of the most accessible.
The program is offered through the College of Design, Construction and Planning’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Established in 1975, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning is heralded for the faculty’s innovative use of technologies and role in drafting major Florida planning legislature. Utilizing a streamlined online curriculum designed to impart a solid core education, graduates go on to careers in public and private agencies both domestically and abroad.
Structured to provide an engaging and creative learning experience, both specializations begin with foundation and core courses before branching off into more advanced courses, providing focused paths of study. Each track culminates in capstone courses that offer the opportunity for professionals to get hands-on, practical experience with the new skills and technologies they’ve mastered.
Although one specialization focuses on sustainable planning concepts and strategies and the other addresses a sophisticated understanding of planning information systems, both specializations promote a future for professionals that broadens the prospects of their careers and their communities. This is achieved by constantly monitoring urban and regional planning trends and intentionally incorporating the latest technologies into study.
The flexibility of online course delivery allows working planners to pursue a graduate degree without interrupting their current careers while also providing a solid foundation for those entering the field for the first time. This convenient format means that today’s most motivated professionals will evolve their skills after a three-year period of study.
